Tzaneen is Limpopo’s second biggest town after Polokwane and has a population of approximately 30 000. Where exactly the town’s name derives from is unclear, but some theories state that it derives from the Sotho words ‘tsaneng’, meaning gathering place, and ‘tsana’, meaning basket of hills.
